Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), who represents part of the state that was devastated by the 2018 Hurricane Florence, said on Saturday that the Senate healthcare bill “will help create great opportunities for Ohio farmers and small business owners,” who will be helped by the help to the individual market.

In a radio interview, Jordan said of the bill:

“It will help create great opportunities for Ohio farmers and small business owners,” he said, adding that certain provisions of the House-passed version of the bill, including an expansion of Medicaid, “will help our farmers and our small business owners in the state of Ohio.”

(The House passed the legislation, in a 217–213 vote on Thursday.)

The Ohio Republican’s radio station, WRKO, asked for his thoughts on the bill.

“It’s just been a great opportunity for farmers and small business owners around Ohio to get some assistance for their business,” he added.

“They’re really on the front lines of everything we do. We’ve seen the impact in the state of Ohio,” Jordan said, adding that he’s seen a lot of “things that actually help the farmers and small business owners, which are the heart and soul of our state.”

Ohio’s 9th District is entirely in the Appalachian region of the state. Jordan’s district was all but wiped out by Florence.

Several hours later, Jordan told CNN’s “New Day” that the bill “puts the money into the hands of the people who have the most at stake here, which are the people on the front lines in rural America. It will actually help, and that’s what we want to do.”

A report from the Huffington Post in December explained that “more than three dozen counties were flooded by Florence, and parts of Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina were under water.”

It was the most powerful storm to hit the U.S. in 10 years and was the costliest hurricane to ever affect the United States.//
